As a result, I'm missing out on so many photo opportunities. So I appolagize for the lack of pictures.
I love makeovers. Don't you? I love beauty makeovers and home makeovers. We are going to try and save Save SAVE and live in our little Duplex until
A) We outgrow it or
B) Zach gets a new job and we MOVE!
We will probably be here for a while, and I can't help but look at all the UGLY features in our place. For example: Our kitchen,
It's not THAT bad. But I guess I've been watching too much HGTV because I want to paint these cabinets, add knobs, and rip out that floor!! What a difference it would make!!!! You can't really tell by the pic, but the cabinets are just crap. They have permanent stains on them. It would be such a cheap fix if we painted either a creamy white or black on them and add some knobs. The only problem is:
How do I go about doing it?
I really REALLY don't want to ask the owner,
"Hey! You know those crappy wood cabinets in the house? Well.. is it okay if I paint them and screw some knobs in them?" I think the only words they will hear is PAINT WOOD CABINETS..and they will probably freak!
But if I just DO IT, maybe when we move out, they will say,I really REALLY don't want to ask the owner,
"Hey! You know those crappy wood cabinets in the house? Well.. is it okay if I paint them and screw some knobs in them?" I think the only words they will hear is PAINT WOOD CABINETS..and they will probably freak!
"WOW! They really fixed this place up!" Or they will say
"You destroyed our house, you have to replace ALL the cabinets!" Which I really don't want to happen. (even though I don't think it would)
So what should I do? Should I just go for it? Ask the cute old couple? Or just leave it and try not to do so much to a rental?
I'm not doing Anything until we get Jonah better. To make a long story short, It's not Asthma. We saw an awesome specialist, and she found a bunch of strange little things thats wrong with him, but she's not quite sure what it is. So next week we take Jonah up to Primary Childrens for a bronchosypy. If you don't know what that is, it's okay I didn't either. Basically they put Jonah to sleep in the Operating Room, and stick a little camera down his nose and go through his neck and chest to see whats wrong. They also stick a tube in his throat to test how narrow it is. The whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. But at least we're one step closer to getting our little boy better.

The place we live in is pretty crappy as well. I painted and put new nobbs on the bathroom cabnets when we first moved in and I didn't say anything to our landlords. They of course didn't care but you should probably run it by them. Especially if its in the kitchen. Sounds fun though! I love changing things up!
I would say run it by the landlords first. Ours are SUPER picky about ANYTHING we do, even if it makes the place look better. And, about fixing up a rental, if you're gonna be there a while, I think it's better to enjoy the space than constantly look at it, wanting to die! Sorry about poor little Jonah! Hope he gets better soon!
I hope Jonah is okay and gets better. Don't waste your money fixing up your place. It's a rental.
Poor little Jonah! I hope they're able to figure out what's going on soon! Anytime you have to have you're kid put under anesthesia is traumatic, I'm sorry :( We knew we were going to be in our tiny place for a few years so we asked the landlord if we could make some upgrades, and they even took the expenses out of our rent! So might be worth running it by them
Don't listen to Cristin! She hasn't spent any money in the whole 8 years she has been married since she has always been in "rentals". You should try, on a budget to keep it cute, warm, whatever since you have to live in it. You better ask befor paint things like cupboards, where you can never put them back how they were.
Hey Caitlin,
I am the same way. If something is ugly to me, I constantly imagine fixing it up. If it's a place you guys are going to live in for a couple of years, I say, ask the landlord. If you end up doing it, then maybe you won't be tempted to move out before you should (that's how I am at least). I hope they say yes so I can see the makeover! I think you should go with white cabnits since it's the kitchen.
Sorry Jonah is so sick.:( Poor little guy. Hope you find the answers to that soon.
I didn't have your email address, so if you want an invite to my blog, email over facebook.
That's so funny that you mentioned that because we just put an offer on a house and it was accepted but it has a really old school fireplace so I've been watching HGTV a lot looking for ideas on what to do with the fireplace :)
I can sympathize. I have come to the conclusion that we have been watching way too much HGTV as well. I have the urge to redo everything, even if its not mine! Luckily our landlord will let us paint and as long as it looks better, we can do anything. But running it by them isnt a bad idea. :)
