The worst part about living in Indianna

My fear of tornadoes started when I was probably about eight years old and I saw the movie Twister. For those of you who don't remember that movie, here's the trailer: Does that look freaky to you? It still makes my stomach curl. Ever since I have seen that movie, I have had a horrible phobia of tornadoes, which is pretty silly because I have never seen one, or lived in a place where they are common... until NOW! Just my luck, we move to tornado valley, right in the middle of the tornado season! I have never been so grateful for weather.com. My sister Kelley, her husband and mine think I'm so silly, but I'm SO paranoid. I don't have a shelter or a basement to hide in!We live on the 3rd floor of our building, the worst place to be! We've had two alerts since we've been here. Last night the Tornado watch turned into a tornado Warning, saying that "A tornado has been spotted in your city, get to shelter immediately! You can imagine how that made me feel! So we woke Jonah up and rushed over to Kelley and Vak's apartment, because we figure its the safest since its partially underground. We were over there for about an hour, Vak kept telling me that these kind of things don't happen unless you live on a farm.(okay vak) I kept checking out the window and the storm was pretty crazy! The clouds were really low and the scary part was it so dark that there was no way of seeing a tornado coming! So after an hour we decided to just go home, even though I was still worried. When I turned on the news after we got home, the warning was back to just a tornado watch, which made me feel,.. a little better. I couldn't sleep all night, the wind picked up and Zach and I both were worried it was a tornado. I've never seen lighting as strong or heard thunder as loudly as last night! I had the worst nightmare about a tornado too! The news says that tomorrow is supposed to be another really bad storm! I soooo wish I had a basement!

I think the scariest parts of a tornado are definitely the flying cows or maybe its the fear that your house will be picked up and transported to munchkinland. Very scary stuff.

Caitlin, that IS scary and I would have been feeling the same way. When we were driving to FL, there were tornado warnings in Oklahoma and Arkansas. And it seemed like we were always heading towards the tornado! I was really worried too! The next day we drove through a city where the tornado had hit the night before and it was really bad. Good luck! And how cares if everyone thinks you are over reacting, haha, just do what makes you feel better!

Caitlin,
You are the most sensible one of the bunch! You are right to worry, but as long as you are prepared and watch the weather reports you will be ok. Just be sure to have your bag to grab on your way out the door with diapers and extra meds etc,and most importantly.....chocolate.

I bet next time you will rethink living on the 3rd floor!

Caitlin thats freaky I would be just as paranoid as you no worries. I think the not being able to see anything would be the worst part. Anways I hope your doing great out there. Your little boy is sooo cute! And 8 months already.. that went by fast!

Yeah i know what you mean... after i saw King Kong i am really afraid of big monkeys, i am always worried about them taking over the world etc. and in those King Kong movies its the same thing.. destruction stuff flying around really scary.. have you seen the movie where lava floods whole cities and tons of people die, its really scary, i am scared of those too and when it gets hot i always think the lava is coming, its terryfing. next time there is a scary movie bout some natural disaster we better not watch it. they should hire you as an extra for tornado movies so they dont have to spend much time training you in acting you'd fit right in into the running screaming people crowd, who end up dying cuz they freak out and run around and end up being picked up by tornado... i heard they can realy tornado you around... we will pray for you guys when it rains next time...
