Daily Activities

I thought I would post an update on little Jonah. He's feeling much better these days! Last I wrote about him was that he was sick with Bronchitis. It ended up being RSV which wasn't much of a surprise since I knew it has been going around all winter. Luckily, by the time we caught it, Jonah hit the worst of it and we took him in to the hospital daily for deep "snot" suctioning and a check up. We were able to take him to my sisters wedding and he is back to his playful self! Since the weather has been so nice lately, Jonah and I go on afternoon walks and I LOVE it! I think I've been cooped
up for too long. Jonah seems to enjoy them too.His two favorite daily activities are jumping in his jumper and taking baths!

Lately Jonah smiles and laughs in his sleep. It's a good feeling to know he thinks Zach and I are so funny!

American Idol Fashion Emergency

Now I normally leave the fashion advice to my sister Kelley, but I couldn't help but comment on the horrific outfits worn by the girls on A.I. tonight! What were they thinking!?
First up we have Alexandrea Lushington. It looks like she mixed an Old Navy vest with boy shorts from American Eagle, and then topped the whole outfit off with a black version of Trine's Peter Pan boots! (Trine, they looked a lot better on you!)I just don't understand why you would go on American idol and want to look like you just got home from the skate park?!
Next, is Kristy Lee Cook. I don't really know what to say besides that she had a camel toe. All I could think about during her whole performance is #1 : Her pants remind me of the Friends episode where Ross wears those leather pants, sweats, and then can't get them back on while in the bathroom on date. #2: Why why WHY did she wear an ugly plastic shirt? and #3: her dancing was just so strange!
Ramiele Malubay wasn't the worst of the night. What mainly got to me was the fact that she pulled her bra up at the end of her performance on national television!

Last but not least is the biker/nurse Amanda Overmyer. Every time I see her I think about my husband working with other nurses like her. She looked like Cruella Divel on crack!

Kaci's Wedding

Congratulations to Salesi Taputafoki Uipi and Kaci lee Uipi! The wedding was beautiful! Here are some highlights of the reception:
Salesi's Aunt found out about the wedding less than a week before and still flew to Hawaii to pick up all of the lays for the family!

The flowers were absolutely beautiful! I was unsure what kaci's colors were before her wedding, but it came together great!
Salesi's big and happy family had a traditional Tongan money dance for Salesi and Kaci. I wish I had a money dance at my wedding!
When I saw these pictures I couldn't help but laugh because this is exactly how I picture kaci with her husband!.. Feeding him good food! (kaci is a talented chef) It was a fun day and I'm sad we had to leave the warm weather so soon! It's crazy all of my sisters are married. Our family has doubled in size in such a short amount of time! I have a feeling it's just going to keep getting bigger!

Are you and your spouse speaking the same language?

There's a book called 'The Five Love Languages' and it helps you and your spouse learn how to express your commitment to each other by understanding which "love language" you need. In the book, the author talks about five different types of love languages: Quality Time, Words of Affirmation, Gifts of Love, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. The author helps you figure out which type you are by saying things like, "He sends you flowers when what you really want is time to talk" , or "She cooks you dinner when all you really need is a hug."
I starting reading the book when Zach and I first got married and I thought to myself," I don't need this book! We have NO problems with this." Now, over a year later, we realize that lately, we have each been "communicating" in totally different ways and it's not always the way that the other would prefer. A Quote from the book kind of describes what I'm talking about:

'Welcome to the real world of marriage, where hairs are always on the sink and little white spots cover the mirror, where arguments center on which way the toilet paper comes off and whether the lid should be up or down. ..... Married adults long to feel affection from their spouses. We feel secured when we are assured that our mate accepts us, wants us, and is committed to our well being.'

So, my point is not that Zach and I are having problems in our marriage. We have a great marriage, but like most of you ,( unless your relationship is perfect!) sometimes, what speaks volumes to you may be meaningless to your spouse! Anyway, yesterday, on our drive home from Arizona, we had a D.T.R. ... ha ha okay not really. But we had a really good talk and realized that we have been showing affection to each other the completely wrong way! Zach's love language is mostly words of affirmation and physical touch, so that's the way he shows me! My language is Quality time and Acts of Service, and that's the way I show him! It needs to be the other way around! After our intense conversation, I thought wow! Why has it taken us this long to realize this! Suddenly we are communicating!..Everyone needs this! So if your husband makes your bed everyday, and you wish he would leave the mess and just give you a massage.. then this is the best advice I can give you! Either read 'The Five Love Languages' or find out what language you and your spouse speak!

My Layout

For anyone asking where I got my background, I went to shabbyprincess.com
and downloaded their free digital scrap booking kits which are way cute! I then used a fellow blogger's instructions on how to make your own layout and that will basically help with everything you need. The only tricky part was making my Blog's title which I used power point to do. I just used all the shabby princess downloads to do that as well. .It's fun because you can make your title really unique and have fun with it! I'm pretty into scrap booking so that's where I got the idea. Anyway, thanks for the compliments! Let me know if you have anymore detailed questions.

A Sick Baby

Our little boy is sick and it brakes my heart to see him this way! Our Valentines Day was spent very different this year,( which is to be expected being parents now) we took Jonah to the doctor, hoping he didn't have RSV which is going around. Luckily it's not RSV but it is bronchitis which doesn't make me feel much better. But at least we caught it early and can hopefully get him well soon! He's been wheezing, coughing, and his nose is constantly stuffy. Poor little guy. We have to use a nebulizer on him every four hours and constantly be suctioning his nose.
Jonah has to sleep with his head propped up so he's either sleeping in our bed or in his swing to help prop him up. We bought a humidifier that's running near him constantly. I love this picture of him because he looks like such a big boy sleeping with a pillow and all.
The first time we used the nebulizer at the doctor's, Jonah freaked out! I was dreading having to do the treatment on my own! The first night it was miserable, especially waking him up at 2 in the morning to run the machine.. I was expecting the same reaction again at six, but out of no where either Jonah suddenly didn't care, or he just got tired of fighting it. He closed his eyes and practically slept the whole 15 minutes. Now that's pretty much how it goes, so it's MUCH more enjoyable and I know it's helping him so much! Here is a video clip I took of Zach using the nebulizer on Jonah. I thought it was so cute how calm and collected Jonah seemed the whole time. He sure loves his daddy.

I'm hoping he starts feeling better before we head down to Arizona next week for my sister's wedding.

Under Construction..never again!

I wish I had never started trying to change my blog in the first place because it's been nothing but problems! I try to fix one thing and I end up accidentally changing another thing.. I'm not as technical as I thought I was. Oh well. haha... sorry for all the changes. I'm not going to touch this thing ever again! I don't have time to deal with my lame blog.

Ambition

This post is probably going to sound pretty cheesy but I couldn't help but write about how great my life is! Now, I'm not trying to brag. I'm sure every one at one time or another allowed discouragement to take over and dampen their happiness or enthusiasm. . I have definitely done that more than once! When deciding whether or not to buy something, Zach and I always ask each other, is it a want or a need? Most of the time it's a want. Being a poor married couple while Zach's in school makes it easy for me to get caught up in fantasizing the days when we can go to the "expensive theater" or shop at a "real grocery store" because Wal-Mart is NOT my ideal place to buy food.
When all of these thoughts come up it makes it harder for me to be happy in the conditions we're in and I end up feeling discouraged and sorry for myself and all the things I wish I had. ( I know you are all thinking how materialistic I am) SO.. I have started using the "Is it a want or a need?" with life in general. And when it really comes down to it, all I really need is my family, the church, the temple, food, and a roof over my head (maybe a car too.). Suddenly I'm SOOO happy and I have a GREAT life! I really do! It couldn't be better! I was thinking to myself today that if Zach flunked out of nursing school and we had to live the rest of our lives with him as a LPN (licensed practical nurse) and live in this apartment I would be happy, we could totally do it! I might not have as many children as I want but it would work.
Anyway, I hope you don't think something is wrong because I wrote about being happy. I wrote this post because right now Zach is working an 18 hour shift at the hospital and I thought it was funny how grateful I could feel while my husband has to work that long! I absolutely LOVE being a mom and I'm so so grateful that it's important enough to my husband that I am able to be home with our son. Even if it means we barely get by sometimes. It's so worth it. So thank you to my wonderful husband for being so ambitious while working and attending school full time. I think we both agree that life couldn't be better.

Pics of the Day

Having a four month old is so much fun!

I love this picture because Jonah looks like he's trying to model.

A picture worth posting

This is an email that Zach received today. It's pretty incredible and I couldn't help but use it as a post.

A picture began circulating in November. It should be 'The Picture of the Year,' or perhaps, 'Picture of the Decade.' It won't be. In fact, unless you obtained a copy of the USpaper which published it, you probably would never have seen it.

The picture is that of a 21-week-old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, who is being operated on by surgeon named Joseph Bruner.

The baby was diagnosed with spina bifida and would not survive if removed from his mother's womb. Little Samuel's mother, Julie Armas, is an obstetrics nurse in Atlanta. She knew of Dr. Bruner's remarkable surgical procedure. Practicing at VanderbiltUniversityMedicalCenterin Nashville, he performs these special operations while the baby is still in the womb.

During the procedure, the doctor removes the uterus via C-section and makes a small incision to operate on the baby. As Dr.Bruner completed the surgery on Samuel, the little guy reached his tiny, but fully developed hand through the incision and firmly grasped the surgeon's finger. Dr.Bruner was reported as saying that when his finger was grasped, it was the most emotional moment of his life, and that for an instant during the procedure he was just frozen, totally immobile.

The photograph capt ures this amazing event with perfect clarity. The editors titled the picture, 'Hand of Hope.' The text explaining the picture begins, 'The tiny hand of 21-week- old fetus Samuel Alexander Armas emerges from the mother's uterus to grasp the finger of Dr.. Joseph Bruner as if thanking the doctor for the gift of life.'

Little Samuel's mother said they 'wept for days' when they saw the picture. She said, 'The photo reminds us pregnancy isn 't about disability or an illness, it's about a little person.'Samuel was born in perfect health, the operation 100 percent successful.

Now here is the actual picture. Amazing.

"You're a happy boy"

That's what my mom always says to our cat as she pets him. Makes me laugh because I now say it to my kitty cat, Jonah. Oh wait, he's not a cat! So we left our camera charger in Arizona when we went down for Christmas. If you haven't noticed, all my pictures lately have been from my cell phone and I couldn't stand not having a real camera! Today we got the charger in the mail thanks to my awesome mother in law for finding it and mailing it out so quickly! Here are a few of the pics I took today of Jonah. Tomorrow is his four month birthday and boy is he changing fast!

Ready for Church

Jonah has enough hair now for me to give him a comb over.
